Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between hiring a fence company and hiring Lowe's or Home Depot?

When you buy a fence install through a big-box store, the store sells the job and then hands it to a subcontractor you usually never meet ahead of time. A local fence company quotes, measures, and builds the fence itself, so the person who walks your yard is accountable for the result. Before starting J Square Fence LLC, we worked in exterior sales installs through Lowe's, so we know both sides. With over 400,000 feet of fence installed, we offer all-inclusive pricing, a free on-site quote, and warranties on materials and workmanship. Illinois doesn't require a state license for fence contractors, but J Square Fence is insured, so ask any installer you're considering for proof of insurance.

How long does it take to install a fence?

Most installs take a couple of days up to a week. Timing depends mainly on product availability and the weather. Larger properties and custom gates can add time, and posts set in concrete need time to cure before heavy gates are hung.

What type of fence lasts the longest?

Aluminum, wrought iron, and masonry or stone fences can last 50 years or more with basic care. Quality vinyl usually lasts 20–30 years, and galvanized chain link lasts 15–25. Wood fences typically last 10–20 years, with cedar near the top of that range. Longest-lasting isn't always the best choice, so we'll help you weigh lifespan against budget and look.
